Each student will be exposed to the necessary clinical techniques required in the dental care environment. It is the goal of the school to train each student to a level of proficiency that will allow them to qualify for immediate employment at a dental office upon completion of the course.
The comprehensive Dental Assisting curriculum is a 12-week program consisting of 96 hours of lecture and chair side clinical training. In addition, 20 hours of patient clinicals during normal clinic hours and 80 hours of externship at an off-campus facility with a practicing dentist which MCP obtains.
Class Schedule: Evening classes can be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Saturday classes can be offered from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Review of the school’s expectations. Introduction to Dental Anatomy & Terminology, sterilization of treatment rooms and instruments. Get to know dental instruments, tray set ups, the dental chair and accessory dental units. The building blocks to becoming an amazing in-demand Dental Assistant and get OSHA certified-all paid for by OceanPointe dental Academy!
Learn Human Dentition, Dental Terminology, Tissues to Surrounding Teeth & practice Dental Charting
Four-Handed Dentistry! Get comfortable transferring instruments to the dentist and learn the transfer zones. Learn to assemble a rubber dam & syringe. Patient Positioning and Dental Handpiece maintenance. This week starts your clinical rotations with our actual patients!
Radiology training and Certification! Learn x-ray techniques and how to take full mouth series of x-rays. Students will be asked to take x-rays, develop and mount radiographs. Be radiology certified at the end of the course by the Dental Assistant National Board (DANBE -all paid for by OceanPointe Dental Academy.
What General Dentistry is all about! Learn all about and how to place amalgam and composite restorations! Practice doing this procedure on mannequins and patients during clinicals. Understand restorative dental instruments and learn to assemble the tofflemire band.
Mid-Term Exam . learn about the many types of cements, including permanent and temporary cements. Get comfortable mixing IRM (Intermediate Restorative Materials), glass ionomer cements, and resin cements. You’ll be able to mix cements with proper ratios of component parts, and how long to mix each type of cement for the consistency each should have when ready to use and when cured.
Oral Surgery and Periodontal Instrumentation and Procedures. Dental Laser and Sedation, including Nitrous Oxide!
As a dental assistant one of the most imperative roles you will have is creating temporary crowns! You will learn how to fabricate a temporary crown for the patient and dentist and practice making these several times on mannequins until you feel confident doing it for the real world!
Learn all about root canals, better known in the dental world as endodontics, as well as orthodontics, or braces! A fun lecture that will engage you with better depth of common dental practices. You will also learn about Sleep Apnea in the Dental Field. It is quickly taking over and will put you ahead of other dental professionals to have this education!
Learn dental office management including telephone techniques, develop proficiency on major dental management software and making appointments, billing, checking patients in and out. This is where you’ll perfect your Job Interview Skills with Mock Interviews, and develop a high-performing resume.
You’ll be introduced to the fundamental science and steps for the prevention, recognition, diagnosis, intervention and treatment of medical emergencies in the dental office setting. Students will engage in discussion and drills to acquire skills necessary for the management of such emergencies. Get CPR certified-all paid for by OceanPointe Dental Academy.
If you love working with children, you’ll really enjoy pediatric dentistry. Learn about procedures performed on pediatric patients including fillings, stainless steel crowns, pulpotomy, and what instruments are used and what material is used in pulpotomy. Final Practical Exam and Final Written Exam! At the completion of your last day you will have the confidence to walk out into the dental world and get an amazing career doing what you love and getting paid for it! You will have full confidence to take and pass the DANB Radiology exam as well, making you that much more employable.
The day following the last day of class is YOUR day to shine! It is graduation day! We go off site to a large local venue to celebrate you and all your hard work! Bring your family, friends, and loved ones to celebrate you and your amazing accomplishment! A variety of refreshments, video of your accomplishments throughout class, diplomas, games with prizes, and memories!
