Why Our Partnership Program Works

Public University CE Departments may now offer a host of online allied health programs through partners such Ed2Go. While these programs are excellent, it does not meet the needs of the entire community at large. Online learning may be famously flexible, but not all adult learners prefer this method of learning. When we think of learning online, it’s usually the asynchronous self-paced learning activities such as presentations and quizzes that spring to mind first.

Live learning with hands0on training increases engagement by adding not only a human element, but practical learning. It would be nearly impossible to train a competent dental or other allied health assisting, solely through online videos and interactive activities solely. Hands-on training is especially beneficial for learners who are not so self-sufficient or who are used to the traditional ‘teacher and class’ model of education. Live instructor-led lessons are particularly important in allied health training since it gives the learners the chance to receive instant clinical feedback on elements of their learning which are impossible to measure in a self-marking quiz.

Careers in the medical field are very hands-on, especially if students are working with direct patient care and medical equipment. It’s one type of experience to visualize a panoramic x-ray on video, and another type of experience when it comes to also touching it and physically operating it.

Over the years we have learned that there are as many, if not more, students who would prefer to learn in a physical clinical environment as there are who’s preference is learning online; especially for the mature learner. This becomes even truer when tuition costs are not far apart from the online vs the live class program. Institutions who have added live hands-on allied health training programs to augment their existing online offerings have noticed a great increase in revenue streams. And as with any online partners, there is no cost to get started offering MCP’s premium allied health care programs such as dental assisting.

We have taken the best of both worlds and combined them for a hybrid learning experience - a flipped classroom approach where students do classwork at home through high definition videos and, then do homework in class through hands-on training that takes place in a real dental facility, under the direction of licensed dentists and experienced instructors who now work in the dental field.

By adding an 85% hands-on live class (on-the-job) training program to the existing online programs, the university CE department can access that segment of the community who prefers to work with real doctors and dentists, real equipment, and with real patients so that when they start their externship or get hired, they will have already experienced most of the competency skills through the on the job training MCP dental assisting program offers.
